I entered a competition where the short story you had to write had to contain the word BOOK in it. Here's my story below.
“I don’t remember much from my past. If I do, it’s only because it’s been delivered to me in short flashes and dreams. It’s like I have a book in front of me but only a portion of it is filled and the rest is unwritten.” Francis said as he relaxed.
“Good, good. Now where were you born or should I say constructed?” The doctor asked as she wrote down notes on her clipboard listening intensely.
“Well from what I can remember I was made in a factory, south-east of The Broken Shard. I didn’t get a chance at childhood, I was just flung into adulthood.” Francis said as the sound of ball-joints and cogs filled the room. He looked at his hand and stared at it for a second. “I know I’m just a synthetic human, a robot if you want to be crude. But I’ve always wondered what it's like to be human” he replied as he clenched his fist.
“Do you remember anything else about your past?” The doctor asked.
“I don’t remember much other than what I’ve already told you.
“Okay, that’s time. Today was progressive, Thanks.” She then reached over and flipped a switch turning off Francis.
